Overview
Kerio Connect allows using external hard drives (HDD, SSD, USB) to store the backup data. While configuring Backup directory as external storage, the Kerio Connect installed on macOS may return the following read/write access errors:
BACKUP: Unable to use /Volumes/Backup: Invalid read/write permissions.
You do not have appropriate rights for directory '/Volumes'
Prerequisites
Administrator access to macOS
Diagnosis
The Kerio Connect mailserver process doesn't have enough read/write permissions to read and write the data to the necessary destination disk. Because of the recent macOS Catalina security measurements, the Full Disk permissions should be enabled manually. For more information, please refer to the 3rd-party discussion about macOS Catalina new Security features.
Solution
- Go to macOS System Preferences and choose Security & Privacy.
- Select the Privacy tab, then Full Disk Access.
- Unlock the pane and place a check next to
mailserver
Testing
Try to enable the external disc drive as the backup directory following Configuring Backup in Kerio Connect.
