Overview
- This article covers the steps to configure Mozilla Thunderbird with an IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) connection to Kerio Connect.
- Additionally, there are steps in this article to:
- Configure Calendars.
- Subscribe to Public Folders.
- Set up an LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) connection for contacts.
Requirements
- The following information is required from Kerio Connect to configure Mozilla Thunderbird:
- Username
- Password
- Email Address
- Server Address
- If any of these details is not at hand, please contact the Kerio Connect administrator to provide these details.

Mozilla Thunderbird uses the IMAP protocol, please ensure the firewalls/routers have the following TCP ports open to access Kerio Connect:
- 143 (IMAP)
- 993 (Secure IMAP)
Process
Follow these steps to configure IMAP connections with Thunderbird:
- Launch Mozilla Thunderbird. On the first launch of this application, it displays a wizard, as seen below, which you can run through.

Note: If the wizard does not display, please use the Create a new account that is visible on the main screen when Mozilla Thunderbird launches.

- Enter the account's full name, Kerio email address, and Kerio password.
- Click Manual config.
- Choose IMAP,
- Verify that the mail server address and username match your Kerio connect server address and Kerio email address.
- Click Re-test once the information has been verified.
- Click Create Account.
- Note: the IMAP protocol does not support contacts or calendar folders.
- If you wish to have calendars in Mozilla Thunderbird, please download the lightning module from Mozilla's website.
- Follow these steps to access other email folders by subscribing.
- Right-click on your account and choose the option Subscribe.
- Check the folders you want to subscribe to and click Subscribe.
- To access your contacts in Mozilla Thunderbird refer to Accessing Kerio Address Book using Mozilla Thunderbird.
- Right-click on your account and choose the option Subscribe.
Confirmation
- The account begins to synchronize through Mozilla Thunderbird.
