Overview
This article provides information about tools and procedures that can be used for converting Apple Mail to EML files and steps in importing EML files to Kerio Connect.
Information
When migrating/transferring Kerio Connect to a different server, customers might be missing some emails. However, the emails are still visible in their client mail software (i.e., Apple Mail). To retrieve the missing emails, a conversion from email client format to EML files is necessary, as Kerio Connect stores all items in .eml file format.
A simple drag and drop will save the emails as EML files, but this would be very time-consuming. The customers can try third-party tools to convert the emails in bulk, like the one mentioned in this article about Exporting Apple Mail to EML File Format in Systematic Manner. Kerio Connect must not be running (stopped) during conversion to avoid Apple Mail syncing with the server.
Note: GFI does NOT support the conversion process provided in the link.
Process
-
Convert emails to EML files for each user.
-
Save the files into their specific folders in the Store directory, inside the #msgs folder:
/mailserver/store/mail/<domain>/<user>/<folder>/<#msgs>
Example:
/mailserver/store/mail/domain.com/username/INBOX/#msgs
Important: Only do this step when Kerio Connect is NOT running.
-
It's required to reindex each folder where you dropped the EML files. For each folder, there will be an index.fld file. Rename this file to index.bad.
Note: The file extension must be renamed specifically to .bad.
Confirmation
When you start Kerio Connect, emails should now be imported to the Mail store, which you can verify in webmail.
