Overview
While trying to set up a new IMAP user account on macOS Apple Mail client, it requires specific settings to be applied. The configuration includes specifying the Kerio Connect server address, full email account name, and password. Then the user will be able to authenticate to their account and successfully send and receive emails.
Solution
Note: If you are using multiple macOS machines running different OS versions, you may notice that iCloud Sync causes the old/incorrect/outdated settings to be copied over from other machines. In this case, please ensure to use the manual settings as described in this article (step 3 in the Solution section) and not use the Automatically manage connection settings options in Apple Mail.
- Open Apple Mail application. If no other mailbox is configured, you will be prompted to choose the provider -> select Other Mail Account -> Continue.
If there is an existing account already configured, click on Mail (top-panel) -> Add account. You will be prompted to choose a Mail account provider as shown above. - Specify the account name, full email address (i.e. john@kerio_domain.com), and password of your Kerio Connect account. Click Sign In.
- The Apple Mail may return the Unable to verify account name or password error. You need to manually specify the Kerio Connect server name (Internet Hostname). The standard format is mail.kerio_domain.com
- Click Sign In. Select the applications that need to use this account - Mail and Notes. Click Done.
Testing
You should be able to successfully send and receive test emails from Apple Mail if the settings were correctly configured. If this fails then please recheck the settings that you have entered for the configuration.
