Installing Kerio Connect Server on Virtual Machine

Overview

Kerio Connect server can be installed on Windows, Linux, or macOS. These are referred to as the host operating systems (OS). These operating systems can be installed directly on bare-metal hardware or in a virtual machine (VM). Kerio Connect can then be installed on that OS.

 

Information

  • The process to install Kerio Connect (KC) on a VM is no different than installing it on bare-metal hardware. It is fully compatible with being run on a VM.
  • When KC is run on a VM, if there's a need to expand it's resources (eg: if the number of KC users increased), then, it's simple as compared to what needs to be done if it's installed on an OS that is installed directly on hardware. On most hosts, it would be as simple as powering off the KC VM, increasing the VM's resources (CPU and/or memory/RAM) from the OS level, powering it back on, and the increased resources would be made available to the KC VM.
  • In the case of troubleshooting or upgrading the KC server, these tasks can be carried out independently of what is going on at the host OS level. Eg: If the KC VM needs to be rebooted to apply some setting, then, it can be done without any consequences or conflicts on the services on the host OS.
