The Kerio Advanced Anti-Spam filter creates a secure connection to BitDefender's online scanning service to analyse email content.
Bitdefender scans the data and sends the result to Kerio Connect. The score can be:
- 0 (zero) for non-spam
- 1-9 for different levels of spam
Kerio Connect calculates the spam score using a special algorithm and adds the score to the overall spam rating.
Officially, we do not have any "recommended" settings, as different environments and setups require different settings. Each email receives a spam score according to a number of factors, such as the subject, the recipient's, any attachment, etc.
Filter contribution to the overall spam score setting sets the threshold on the weightage of the score supplied by the Anti-Spam filter individually. If you set it higher than normal then the decision made by this filter becomes dominant towards deciding if an email should be classified as spam or not.
This value needs to be adjusted by a few rounds of testing when the server is set up for the first time. Please review the Kerio Anti-Spam filter article for insights into the working of the filter. This will help you decide the best value for this setting.
If you are unsure, it is a good idea to leave this at the default setting.
Kerio Connect requires that you have at least one spam filter enabled at all times. If you do not have the Advanced Antispam filter (Bitdefender) licensed, the SpamAssassin filter is always enabled. For customers that do have it licensed, they can choose to have only one of the two enabled or both. If you disable the SpamAssassin filter, then you can increase the contribution from the Bitdefender filter.
After updating any settings, observe the email flow and check the email headers for rejected/blocked emails to confirm if the settings are in line with your expectations.
