‭Kerio Anti-spam failed to get license information with result 0xc0000007 (BDANTISPAM_ERROR_CORE_ENGINE)

Overview

If you are experiencing an issue with the Kerio Anti-spam plugin on your server, where it fails to initialize and the below error is displayed in the logs, this guide is for you.

[09/Jan/2025 19:30:16][4560023552] {kerioantispam} Kerio Anti-spam failed to get license information with result 0xc0000007 (BDANTISPAM_ERROR_CORE_ENGINE). Initialization failed.

This error, code 0xc0000007 (BDANTISPAM_ERROR_CORE_ENGINE) is typically associated with issues in initializing the BitDefender AntiSpam Core Engine, and therefore failing to process the AntiSpam license information, which in turn results in the AntiSpam module failing to update and start.

Solution

The issue is encountered on older operating systems, particularly macOS versions prior to macOS 12.

As of January 2024, Kerio Connect only officially supports macOS 12 Monterey and above as indicated in the Kerio Connect Server System Installation Requirements.

ℹ️ Note that a status of "not officially supported" for specific OS's means that while the software may run on those OS's, its functionality cannot be guaranteed.

In order to resolve this behavior, you will have 2 options:

  1. Either do an in-place upgrade of the current server to one of the supported OS versions (if the hardware allows you to do it) - Kerio Connect Server System Installation Requirements OR
  2. Purchase/move the Kerio Connect mailserver to another server that falls within the Kerio Connect Server System Installation Requirements, which is where the steps for Kerio Connect system migration to another server will need to be followed.

Summary

If you're experiencing the BDANTISPAM_ERROR_CORE_ENGINE in Kerio Connect on an older OS, verify the system requirements to make sure that they are met. If not, you will need to proceed with upgrading your OS or moving the mailserver to a supported server.

FAQ

  1. What does 'not officially supported' mean for an OS?
It means that while the software may run on that OS, its functionality cannot be guaranteed and full assistance may not be provided for any issues.
  2. What are my options if I'm running Kerio Connect on an unsupported OS?
You can either upgrade your current OS to a supported version, if possible, or move the Kerio Connect mailserver to a server that meets the Kerio Connect Server System Installation Requirements.
  3. What if I can't upgrade my OS or move the mailserver?
Currently, these are the only 2 avenues to resolve the issue, as there is no workaround available.
