Overview

When performing Backups in Kerio Connect, an error backup.cpp: BACKUP: XMPP database backup request failed. XMPP backup will be skipped. is seen in the logs. This error occurs if the Backups are configured to backup the chat related data, but the chat functionality is not being used. This article provides the steps to resolve this issue.

Solution

1. Stop the Kerio Connect service (Windows, Linux/macOS).

2. Navigate to the Kerio Connect Installation Folder and edit the file mailserver.cfg. The file is available in the default location as per your Operating System (OS):

   OS	Path
   Mac OSX	/usr/local/kerio/mailserver/
   Linux	/opt/kerio/mailserver/
   Windows	C:\Program Files\Kerio\MailServer\

3. There is a variable IncludeXmpp under table name StoreBackup. Change the value of that variable from 1 to 0:

1. Start the Kerio Connect service (Windows, Linux/macOS).

Confirmation

With the next manual or scheduled backup, the error will not be seen in the logs.
