Overview
While you may be familiar with Syncing Outlook with Kerio Connect Using EAS Protocol (Manual Setup), this article will provide you with a means of syncing your Kerio Connect account in Outlook EAS using the Simplified Account Creation Wizard (Modern Authentication), and in this way, you can also benefit from the Autodiscover Feature in Kerio Connect.
- You can synchronize your Microsoft Outlook supported versions with Kerio Connect, via EAS (Exchange ActiveSync) protocol.
-
EAS protocol in Outlook has the following usage limitations:
- You cannot synchronize your email filters from Kerio Connect Client.
- You cannot create additional contact, calendar, or task folders.
- Global Address List (the Public Contacts folder/s) does not synchronize to Outlook.
- You cannot share any folders.
- You cannot see contact groups created in Kerio Connect Client.
- You cannot rename or delete calendar and task folders created in Kerio Connect Client.
- You cannot synchronize your drafts and notes or task status.
- Delivery and read receipts do not work.
- You cannot set the out-of-office message.
- To avoid these limitations, you can use the Kerio Connect Client instead or the Kerio Outlook Connector
⚠️The Auto Account Setup will not work using the legacy authentication UI (depicted below):
If you attempt to auto-configure your Kerio account in the old wizard, you may be getting this error, or even timeouts altogether:
Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name.
The Microsoft Exchange information service in your profile is missing required information.
Modify your profile to ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft Exchange information service.
This is because by default, during the Auto Account Setup in the legacy wizard, Outlook uses Exchange (and therefore expecting from the server a Native Exchange response) and not Exchange ActiveSync, which results in this behavior. The registry file that enables the modern wizard has been updated to enable the EAS option.
Solution
In order to be able to use the Auto Account Setup and benefit from Autodiscover in Outlook Windows, you will need to enable the modern Outlook login screen, and alongside that, also enable EAS account creation from within the wizard
- Download the zip file attached to this article (enablemodernwizard.zip) which contains the registry changes
- Make a backup of the current registry in your PC
- Unzip the file and double-click it, then grant your permission for the registry changes to take effect.
What do those registry entries mean:
DisableOffice365SimplifiedAccountCreation
- setting this to 0 will enable the modern login interface of OutlookEnableEASAccountCreation
- setting this to 1 will allow for the wizard to use EAS in the configuration, rather than native Exchange (resulting in account creation failures)
Once the above is carried out, you can proceed to open Outlook and create a new profile:
- You will be greeted with this screen, insert your Kerio email address and Connect
- After a bit of loading up, you will be prompted for the password:
- Once the password is input (and Connect), Outlook will do some additional configuration, and the account will be configured
Summary
This article provides a solution for customers experiencing issues with setting up a Kerio Connect EAS account in Outlook Windows. The solution involves enabling the modern Outlook login screen and EAS account creation, applying certain registry changes, and adding a new Outlook account using the modern interface with auto setup.
